Our papier mache' birds are done! We took three weeks to form, cover and paint these great birds in my 4th and 5/6th grade homeschoool art classes. The bodies were shaped out of crumpled newspaper and masking tape for the basic bird form. We covered them in two layers of mache', then painted with acrylic. I took them home last week and added wire feet to the ones who wanted them, and decopaged them for sturdiness and a nice shiny finish. I would usually let the kids do the whole thing, but felt that we had spent enough time on them already. They turned out great, and the kids and parents all loved them. I loved them!

They were all really darling. I found this idea at http://thatartistwoman.blogspot.com/2010/09/paper-mache-birds.html

This is the "librarian/brainiac" look. Her hair was bunned up for ballet.

Fall Color

It's been drizzling rain here and it darkens the tree trunks to make nice contrast with the fall foliage. Small pumpkins are waiting for a lettering project with my art classes on Friday.

Extended Cousin Fun

Sunday most of my extended family went out for lunch. There were 23 out of 26 of us. Good food, good memories, good turnout! Missed the ones who were unable to be there.

Cousin Weekend

Cousin Piper and her dad were here this weekend. We have had overnights, swimming, and went to a high school play (Dr. Seuss) with her and the O's.

Feather Sword

W and O were playing in the barn this week and brought in a whole bunch of pigeon feathers. She wanted to make a feather sword. We hot glued them at an angle all around a stick. Simple and neat! We thought it would be cool with leaves for fall wands too.

Sunday Dinner

We had a lovely Sunday dinner today with my folks and my brother's family. (Top) Mom and our sons, J and D. (Bottom picture, from l.)-Husband, myself, Bob, M., W. (front), Holly, Jessica, L. Grandma, D. , J., A., Grandpa, Betty, Mitchell

Friends and Pumpkins

My friend Ana and I made up these pumpkins on Friday. Her church was having a craft sale and this was her offering. We had a great time doing them while the kids played at the park after co-op classes. We are both loving making this style of pumpkins for fall holidays.

Beautiful Feet

I had to sew ribbon ties onto ballet shoes this week. L. had to get some new, more advanced ones. I don't understand all of the nuances of toe shoes vs non-toe shoes, but she seems to. They really are beautiful things. I am reposting the shot I love of her feet en pointe, and I am also posting a photo I love of M's feet from when she was a flower girl a few years ago.

Underwater Beans

Husband and I went to check on the final fields of beans before they get out to finish them tomorrow. We looked at the fields near the river. It was a beautiful day out again.

My handsome husband.

Overlooking one field. Note the dark line at the back edge where the mud has covered the beans.

Below, a second field with lots of mud and some water still standing.

The third field; still pretty wet.

Field Lunch

Lunch in the field. Goulash with a few harvest pictures.
This field was originally my grandparents land, and it overlooks my childhood farm.
