What We're Reading

We seem to be into classics these days. M. just finished Around the World in 80 Days. Robinson Crusoe is our current "read-aloud." We are on the 5th or 6th chapter and W. says she is learning a lot already. We have looked up words like "pieces of eight, hogshead, barrel (measures), league, and calenture." The Kindle is very handy for this. I read "A Three Dog Life" about a woman who is married to a mid-functioning husband who was brain damaged in an accident. Moving and interesting. W. (and others) is reading the Schulz classic and some Roald Dahl.

All the girls are reading and learning their parts for plays. May and July are the months our homeschoolers have a week of drama camp. (This year it is two weeks since the high schoolers are doing a musical for the first time.) L and M are both in our July weeklong Shakespeare camp this year, so The Tempest is floating around the house and car. I find these exercises in drama very entertaining and fun, because I never have to manage any of the learning of these parts. The girls and their friends work with each other and learn it all themselves. Postive peer pressure is a lovely thing.
