Trinity College-Book of Kells, Old Library

We visited Trinity College in Dublin. This college was established by Queen Elizabeth in the 1500's. Ancient and beautiful. Notice the size of the door in the front gate. The wood part above is huge. See the picture below and note how small the large entrance door set into the wooden entrance looks.
First we visited The Book of Kells exhibit. The Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels of the New Testament, created in a Columban monastery in Britain or Ireland around 800 AD. It is a masterwork of calligraphy and illumination art and is regarded as Ireland's most important national treasure.

After seeing the Kells exhibit, visitors are funneled through THE OLD LIBRARY! As an artist, I appreciate the significance of the Book of Kells, but to me The Old Library is like walking into an early version of Heaven. It was FANTASTIC! This and Mount St. Michele were the two favorite things we saw on our trip. Thousands of old books, old wood, classic construction and details. Heaven.
