Bugs

Here is another posting of "Focus on the Little Things"-daughter L.'s pictures. This time I got into the bugs file. She is a great nature observer.

Church in the Park

Church in the park today. We have gone every year for many, many years, with potluck afterwards. Beautiful day for it today. Pastor Ron preached on Revelation.

Children's sermon.

Lake Evening

We had a family reunion at a nearby lake this afternoon and evening. It was Husband's paternal grandmother's side. Pretty good turnout! Top, Shirley, Don, Pat and Joyce. Above, Marilyn, Sherri, and Sheila

The girls had a chance to swim in the lake. Above, A. and L. Below, M.

The Meadow

M. has a fever today, and is resting on the couch. Sister W. came in this afternoon with this little bouquet. "I brought the meadow to you," she told her sick sister.

Dilly Beans

We made Dilly Beans last week. These are pickled green beans and are DELICIOUS. My friend Linda gave me her recipe. She says it is from the Ball Blue Book recipe book.

Dilly Beans

2 lbs. green beans
1/4 c. canning salt (do not use regular)
2 1/2 c. vinegar
2 1/2 c. water
1 tsp. cayenne, divided
4 cloves garlic, divided
4 heads dill (or 4 tsp. dill seed), divided

Trim beans. Combine salt, vinegar and water in large saucepot. Bring to boil. Pack beans lengthwise into hot jars, leaving 1/4 in. head space. Add 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper, 1 clove garlic, 1 head dill (or 1 tsp. dill seeds) into each jar. Ladle hot liquid over beans, leaving 1/4 inch head space. Remove air bubbles. wipe rims with clean wet rag; put on lids. Process 10 min. in boiling water bath canner. (If you have not canned before, please read up on safe canning practices before canning anything.)

Lawn Mowers and Hydrangeas

My hydrangea seems to be doing OK. We have some new blooms, and they look like they will be blue! Yay! The O's were out on Fri. Look at O driving the big equipment. His face was so cute. They will both need their learner's permits before we know it! I think O is ready!

Weather

Why yes, we do live at the end of the rainbow! With all the rain this year, we have seen multiple rainbows and double rainbows in the East. Often they are full double rainbows, but it is impossible to get a shot of them.

Last night a storm came up quickly and moved across in waves. These unusual stacked clouds (above) moved along and turned into the powerful, dark, towering clouds just minutes later (below). We were right on the edge of the system, and did not get any wind or even much rain, but Son D and Mac lost part of their yard fence to wind.

ZZ Date Night

It started out as supper out with a Soybean rep at the nicest place in town. Then we got a little crazy and hit the ZZ Top concert with J. and S. at the fair. Crazy free tickets from our crazy K. friends. They rock! Thanks!
