Springfield Statehouse and Cathedral

We finished out our Springfield visit with a tour of the Old Statehouse. This is where Lincoln spent a lot of time while in public service. It is also where he laid in state for the funeral. It is a beautiful building. We were there on a Sunday, so had the place mostly to ourselves.

We were lucky to be there on a day when they had a dulcimer player performing. He let the girls try it out. Friend Nicole is a violinist, so she strummed out a little of Bach's Ode to Joy.

He also showed them the bones, and let them all try them. W. had a knack for playing them.

L. was inspired by the historical pictures! After the statehouse, we walked to church at the newly restored Springfield Cathedral.

They had beautiful stained glass windows in an unique artistic style and the theme of Christians in public service.
