White Owl!

There is a white owl flying around our farm!
We have seen it in the barn and in one of our white trees.

She is pretty tame and quite adorable. Happy Halloween!

This and That

This is how we clean bathrooms around here. No comment, as long as it gets done!
L. went to Friend Bret's last night to carve pumpkins. This is hers.
Last week we had snow one night, so W. made one of her cute little snow persons. Actually she made two, but I only got a picture of this one.
Also last week I went out for supper with some of the moms in my homeschool group. (From L and clockwise.) Jodi, Barbara, Katie, Me, Ana and Caitilin.

Foxes

On Tuesdays W. and I have the day at home while her sisters are at Jr. High/High School classes at Tutoring Center. Today I had a surprise for her-a break from the workbooks and usual daily work. We did a little unit study on foxes. She loves foxes and I knew we had the book Cinnabar by Marguerite Henry, so we started with that. I printed off some pages from the internet (fox facts, fox book marks to cut out, fox oragami, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." in cursive to copy, how to draw a fox, a Brian Jacques fox quote for copywork and a fox facts crossword puzzle.) I read to her from the book and she took notes of anything she liked, including M. F. H. (Master of the Fox Hounds), "All work and no play makes you old before your day...", Beelzebub, "...bright eyed and bushy tailed...", cached, cinnabar and sassafras (whose leaves she drew.) We also looked up United Kingdom, North Africa, Europe, North America , and the Potomac River near Washington DC.
With piano and math, she had a well rounded day and we both had fun. We will be doing this again. She said she also wants to do snakes and then dragons.

This and That

Occasionally Husband has to climb the bin "leg" to do some maintenance. It's a great view from up there.

L. made a fruit pizza cell model for her biology class last week. We made two and enjoyed one at class and one at home.

L. joined HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) this year in a chapter sponsored by our home school group. She is considering careers in health care, possibly nursing. HOSA explores different health care jobs and procedures so students can decide what to train for. At the last meeting they learned about 3 minute hand washing and checked hand cleanliness under a black light afterwards.

L. and M. had a Halloween costume dance on Friday. They went as twins. Twice a month our home school teens go ballroom dancing at a dance studio in town.

Tablecloth

I found this gorgeously embroidered table cloth at a thrift store for three dollars! It fits our large antique table very well. It had  a couple of small stains that I was able to lighten to near invisibility. Someone put many hours of cross stitching into it. I always look at the textiles when thrifting and am a sucker for fine work at a good price, as long as there are no nasty stains or tears. Even damaged textiles can be used for gift bags or other crafts if the design is beautiful enough and the price is right.

Finishing Harvest

We were at the river last night where Husband was harvesting and the girls ran and explored while he ate supper. When I came home today I caught them finishing the last few rows to the south of our own place. Done with harvest! Whoo hoo! (Top two pix by L.)

Wedding Flowers

I arranged these bridesmaids bouquets for our nephew's Oct. 10th wedding. They were married in Mexico, so the arrangements had to be carried down to the wedding. They seemed to travel well, as you can see below in the beautiful pictures of Justin and Natalie's wedding.
