Tuesday night our home school teen group had their annual Golden Spatula cook off (and swim party). Husband and I were asked to be judges this year. Friend Ann and I were "dessert" judges (YES!), Father Anderson and John were "sides" judges and Janel and Curt were "salads" judges. Husband served as tiebreaker. Each teen brought a homemade dish to go with the grilled burgers and hot dogs. Jennifer won the sides with Mint Jalapeno dip, Isabel won the desserts with Brazilian Flan and Strawberries and Rachel won the salads with Sweet Rotini Salad. Daughter L. got an honorable mention with her Garlic Bread Puff. Thanks to Ed and Margie and their family who put on these memorable teen events.
Garlic Bread Puff
*Son J. won a purple ribbon at the fair with this recipe when he was about 10, and also demonstrated it on a local news cooking show.2 loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
1/2 c. butter, melted
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 heaping Tbsp. dried parsley
2 tsp. garlic powder
Mix the butter, eggs, parsley and garlic powder. Cut 1 " chunks of bread dough and dip in butter mixture. Drop evenly into greased (sprayed) 9 x 13 pan. Let rise in warm place until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 min. until golden brown. Recipe can be halved and baked in an 8 x 8 pan or large casserole.
I remember watching J on TV. What a great time we homeschooling families had together back then. I miss those days! I've made that recipe lots of times over the years. Wonder why J hasn't put that recipe on his blog? :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was good times. I'm glad they're still friends in this next stage. Good point-Jordan needs to do that. My mom notes that he hasn't posted anything for months! She loves the blogs.(Laura's too.)
ReplyDeleteYay for the cook off!!! it was always a great time going and eating your friends food.
