A Thread That Runs So True, by Jesse Stuart
I found this excellent book on education at a thrift shop in Branson for 50 cents. I read most of it yesterday on the way home in the car.
Jesse Stuart's sister was beaten up and thrown out of her Kentucky mountain school by a pupil. The next year, Mr. Stuart, as a boy of 17, successfully taught at the same school for the full year. He went on to finish high school and college and was a principal and superintendent by his mid-20's. He became a famous Kentucky poet and author.
Illuminating.
