This week we combined two lessons to learn about shading and highlighting. We talked about light sources. I liked doing the pipes better than the traditional orbs that are usually used for shading. It makes an interesting composition. Also we were able to work on drawing things "in front of" and "behind" other things with this lesson. (Depth.)
It is always good to learn to draw these boxes in "3-D". Some of my kids knew how to draw them already with simple perspective, and some did not. All enjoyed adding white and black to their main chosen color to make highlights and shadows. We used oil pastels, but chalk pastels or prismacolor colored pencils would work too. Anything you can blend. Find details of the lessons on my favorite art lesson site: artprojectsforkids.org. Daughter M's is the first picture.
