The girls are getting a lot out of their poetry classes, especially M. She seems to have a knack for phrasing. She enjoys the strict requirements Mrs. K places on their poems. Last week she did these assignments. I have to get out the poetry book and figure out all the terms before I can help.
Assignment:
2 quatrains in trochaic tetrameter
No end rhymes, but eye-rhymes
A metaphor
Personification
Here it is:
Felines
Switching, twitching
Sharp nails, long tails
Soft ears aloft
Stretching dancers.
Posing, curling,
Pretty, friendly
Sun bathe, dust bath
Furry blankets.
And the second assigment was for Haikus.
Assignment:
Three Haikus with
metaphor, alliteration, assonance
Kaa
Parrot town crier.
Whitney’s saucy singing bird.
Red, yellow, green, blue.
Trampoline
Flipping, jolting, jump.
Springs galore, laughter flying.
Bouncing, jouncing bed.
Barn Swing
Rope tied to the beams.
As I swing-nests, eggs, cobwebs-
On the farm trapeze.
Tonight she told me (after reading together before bed,) "I LOVE oxymorons! EVERYONE loves oxymorons!" Thanks Mrs. K.
